hand sketched creations, as online graphics, or written
descriptions.
-The text is read silently, read out loud, acted out, drawn out,
and viewed as in film format so as to reach as many students
as possible.
Teacher Preparation:
-Need to have access to computers and cameras for several
days at a time
-Need to have rubrics and quizzes and evaluation formats
available
-Need to have crafting material available for those who chose
the drawing option

participation

Evaluate and revise

-Acting and group collaboration

-Videos and visuals
-Group discussions
Practice how to create graphics
Practice using cameras
Practice creating brief video
Students
21st century skills: creativity and creation, problem solving,
cause and effect, analytical thinking, collaboration,
communication, nonlinear thinking
Technology skills: creation of video, use of computers and
cameras
Instruction: PowerPoint on Doyles history must be engaging
and informative. Group discussions should be managed so as
to encourage maximum participation. Technology is utilized a
lot in this lesson, so group work must be carefully monitored to
make sure all remain on task.
Reflection/Revisions: Students may be more comfortable with
evaluating Holmes character if they read more stories, so time
may have to be allotted before hand to read A Study in Scarlet.
Evaluation of videos will appear subjective to many of the
students, so clear parameters must be established. Since this
is a very involved week, I will have to be careful with timing.
