Re: Proposal to set national guidelines for all companies to
have unified onboarding process for all new employees
Introduction
I request permission to spend 1 year investigating the onboarding
process for companies and if it is being done in an efficient manner.
New employees decide the longevity of their stay at the company
based on the onboarding process in the first couple of weeks. Is there a
more efficient way for companies to do this process?
Problem
Many problems that new employees encounter when first entering the
workspace and going through the onboarding process determine there
future with the company. A well-designed onboarding process engages
people in the company as quickly and effectively as possible, assuring
that they feel comfortable in their new roles. The problem is the
miscommunication between employer and employee and issues with
the new-hire processes.
Objective
To solve this problem, I would investigate a solution that would have
every company having the same set of guidelines for all new
employees that would allow the employee to have a smooth transition.

Solution
The guidelines would be placed in every company and would be a set
of guidelines that would maximize the benefits for the employee. Some
of the guidelines would include sending the paper work ahead of time,
having computer and email access ready before employee arrives, and
making sure other employees know of new hires arrival.

Qualifications
Interning at an IT company last summer gave me a first-hand
experience of the onboarding process in a large corporation.
Experiencing flaws with the system qualifies me to write about the
flaws. Having additional sources about how onboarding is done at
different companies and reading about the pros and cons of each will
better suite me to write about to develop a better system.

Conclusion
The proportion of change that this proposal recommends is immense
and I understand that. Starting on a smaller level sample size would be
ideal, but this proposal develops idea for sampling companies across
the nation. Changes are needed to the onboarding process to develop
and nourish new employees.
