Classroom Context

I have the pleasure of conducting my student-teaching at Whittaker

Elementary School, here in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Whittaker has an
enrollment of 672 students. Dr. Casandra Jenkins is the principal, she
presides over 36 teachers, 52% of which have their masters degrees. The
student-teacher ratio is 24:1. As of 2013, Whittaker received a grade of an
A. My cooperating teacher is Mrs. Robinson and she is located in room
seventy-seven. All of the fourth grade teachers are located in the newest
building on Whittakers campus.
Mrs. Robinsons subjects are science and reading. Her homeroom class
is comprised of twenty-four students. There are nine girls and fifteen boys.
All students except one are African-American. One student is LatinoAmerican. The set-up of Mrs. Robinsons room includes five, five-seat tables,
a computer station, clubby holes, a smart board, classroom library, teachers
desk, and a teachers work station. The classroom is kept very clean and tidy.
Mrs. Robinson moved a desk from a different classroom into her just for me!
She also provided two baskets for me to collect and grade papers. Bulletin
boards all over the school have a football theme. There are two displays in
my classroom that are football-themed as well. Our Accelerated Reader
competition is displayed in between a goal post. There are markers for 25100% completion of each students A.R. goal.

I like the overall impression of Whittaker and my classroom. There are

a few examples of aspects that I would like to include in my classroom.
Below, you can find pictures of my classroom environment. I am looking
forward to continuing my professional clinical practice with Mrs. Robinson.
