The Native American Protection Association

Dear society, Native Americans are not a thing of the past, they keep on
struggling to keep their land and traditions safe from intruders, and to fit in a
society which was not build for them , all that with indifference from the
public and little to no support from governmental organizations throughout
the United States.
The U.S. was built on land taken from Indian nations, and indigenous peoples
across the country are still living with the reality of dispossession. In
contrast, The Native American protection association has taken the
responsibility to fight for those who cannot do it themselves, offering support
to many tribes to obtain regulations that protect their heritage, health and
settlement facilities making it easier for natives to successfully fulfill basic
necessities.
There are 567 tribes, including 229 Alaska Native communities, currently
recognized by the federal government. In which, Native peoples suffer from
high rates of poverty and unemployment. Seventeen percent of Native
Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders and 27 percent of all self-identified Native
Americans and Alaska Natives live in poverty, according to U.S. Census
Bureau data. However, the NAPA is working along with human resource
corporations to provide job opportunities regardless of the background, as
well as scholarship programs for students wanting to reach higher
educational goals.
American Indians , Alaska Natives and Native Hawaiians , suffer in massive
quantities from high rates of diabetes, obesity, substance abuse, HIV and
other sexually transmitted diseases. However, such diseases can be
eradicated with no more than solid and easy-access prevention information,
giving the fact that most of them are eligible to receive health care through
IHS. Like many other federal agencies that serve Natives, the Indian Health
Services has historically been underfunded. Local IHS facilities often lack

basic services like emergency contraception, forcing Native patients to travel

for a simple treatment elsewhere. To avoid that, the NAPA Is raising money
donations in their webpage in order to aid the Indian health services achieve
its purpose.
