FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CENTRAL ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY BOARD OF TRUSTEES TO CUT TUITION
AND ELIMINATE PROGRAMS FOR UPCOMING ACADEMIC YEAR

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (Sept. 11, 2015) Central Illinois University announced today that

its board of trustees voted Friday to cut tuition by 10 percent for the 2016-17 school year
and to eliminate six academic programs.

Currently, the cost of in-state tuition is $5,450 per semester for full time

undergraduate students and $12,500 for out-of-state students. The tuition cut will result in
savings between $545 and $1,250.

I am extremely pleased that the board has seen fit to follow our recommendations
on lowering tuition costs. During the past several years we have had to raise tuition a
number of times for all of our students. With more and more people attending junior
colleges and other universities in the state, we have recognized that those who want to

come to this university must have some relief, LeFleur said.

As a part of the Universitys strategic planning effort, programs to be cut include the

Department of Womens Studies, the Arts and Sciences Honors program, the womens and
mens golf teams, the University Hosts and Hostesses program and the Department of
Eastern Languages.

No faculty or staff member will lose their job because of these cuts, LeFleur said.

The faculty and staff members whose programs will be eliminated will be absorbed into
other areas of the university.
