Public Meeting Scheduled for Naval Station Newport

Restoration Advisory Board, Nov. 18
The public is invited to attend a meeting celebrating the 20th anniversary
of the Naval Station (NAVSTA) Newport Restoration Advisory Board (RAB),
Nov. 18, 6:30 p.m., at the Courtyard Marriott, 9 Commerce Drive,
Middletown.
The NAVSTA Newport RAB, started in 1996, was a partnership between the Navy
in Newport and local citizenry to build community awareness and promote
involvement in the environmental remediation projects on Naval Base
property and to provide a collaborative forum to identify the most
efficient and productive means to restore the environment.
Attendees will have an opportunity to meet fellow citizens, RAB members,
and representatives from the Navy, the U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency, and the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management.
The RAB is always looking for new members to help plan studies and
restorations of cleanup sites.
In recognition of the 20th anniversary, a special meeting agenda will
include an overview of the Environmental Restoration Program at NAVSTA
Newport that will summarize the progress made at the various remediation
sites.
Agency representatives and RAB members will present their choices for the
top five major accomplishments over the past 20 years.
