What is Construction
Engineering?
Dictionary Definition: Construction engineering is a professional

discipline that deals with the designing, planning, construction, and


management of infrastructures such as highways, bridges, airports,
railroads, buildings, dams, and utilities.

Construction Engineering Tasks


The construction engineer will need to produce reports and
environmental statements detailing how the project will be done and
what areas it will affect
They will need to discuss charts and data with related parties such as
builders, environment agencies and local, state, and federal entities
They must also inspect the site to ensure that the building which will be
taken place can be accommodated by that area
Some must determine the costs of their construction projects
They must also provide technical advice to all parties involved with the
project

Environment
Construction engineers need to be comfortable alternating between
indoor and outdoor environments

Certification
In order to receive the certificate you need to accomplish the following:
Graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering from an
accredited university
Pass the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) written examination
Pass the Principles and Practices in Engineering (PE) written examination

Degree(s) Needed
Program Levels in Construction Engineering: Bachelor's master's.
Prerequisites: High school diploma or GED; undergraduate degree is
required for admission to the master's program.
Program Length: Four years for undergraduate; two years for graduate.

The average salary of a Civil Engineer is $77,560 annually
The lowest-paid 10% of Civil Engineers receive less than $50,560
The highest-paid 10% earn more than $119,320 per year

Job Outlook
Construction engineers can work in a variety of areas within the
construction industry, including contracting and design. Management
training can lead to positions as a cost engineer, a project
superintendent, an operations manager or a safety and design engineer.
