Big Idea that drives Lesson/Unit:


Students will be exploring the concept of identity to further understand themselves and to help them grow
as individuals. Moreover, the students will discover how identity is not only about understanding ones
self, but also is about understanding the people and situations around them.
Key concepts about Big Idea:
Understanding ones own identity can help them grow as an individual
Understanding ones motivations and goals one works towards
Inspiration from other artist can affect ones artwork

Procedures:
DISCUSSION: (10 minutes)
o Schedule [Agenda of days events; first we will, next, then, last]
o Review from the last classes
- What did we work on the past few weeks?
- How does it all tie into identity?
o Power point
- Show how artists are inspired by other artists and how it affects their work
- Artists will be not only from visual art but different forms of art as well
DEMONSTRATIONS: (5 minutes)
o Introduce and show Inspired by Picasso Boudoir, K Madison Moore
- Compare to Picassos work
- How are the pieces similar?
- How are they different?
- What did this painting take from Picassos painting?
DESIGN/WORK SESSION: (15 minutes)
o Have students take out supplies from their desk (Pencils, color pencils, markers, etc.)
o Place a sheet of writing paper on the students desk
- Have the students write about someone who is a role model or someone they
want to be like
- Have them explain why they want to be like them
o Hand out drawing paper
- Students will draw themselves in the future, depicting who they want to be
(vocationally and as a person)
CLEAN UP: (2 minutes)
o Put away everything but the writing and drawing
CLOSURE: (8 minutes)
o Students will share their drawings and their inspiration for their drawings/ what they want
to be in the future
o After sharing, the class will discuss as a whole on the lesson
- How does our role models affect how we view ourselves?
- What does this have to do with identity?
o Review the past weeks and close
- What are some things you learned from these past few weeks?
- What did you learn about yourself?
- What did you learn about identity?
- How has it affected you?
