the short list consists of 12 albums from the past year from bands
and artists from the UK and IE. Its main intention is to educate
people on all kinds of music. Whether this is interest is through
debates or agreement it makes people more open minded. The
mercurys are the equivalent to the booker prize for music or the
turner prize for art.
They have one category and its only for the best album of the year.
The awards have been going for 23 years with primal scream
winning. Every single album that has won the awards have gone
down in history, such as pulps different class , PJ Harveys
stories from the city, stories from the sea and also her 2011
album let England shake, arctic monkeys whatever people say I
am thats what im not and many more. All 12 acts get a trophy
with the winner getting a special trophy to tear them apart from the
others. Being added to the shortlist is good for the bands nominated
because it promotes their music to people who arent aware of the
band/artist.
the shortlist is chosen by an independent panel of judges who have
to listen to a number of albums over so many weeks and they all
then meet up to discuss the albums. They are based on the quality
of music not the sales, live performances or chart success ect the
winner is chosen by the same panel of judges and they choose from
the short list who has the best album and the one that gets the
most votes between the panel wins. The 2015 panel is made up of
12 judges, they all have a music background, some of them will be
musicians, professors ,journalists, managers, record label chairmen
and radio DJs.
for an album to be eligible for the award the album has be from an
artist or a band for the uk or Ireland. For this years awards, the
album would have had to come out from the 9th of September
2014-the 25th of September 2015 for the album to have a chance of
being in the short list. There is a fee of 170 plus VAT to enter even
though the album might not even make it to the short list.

The driver of the hit and run incident at south SXSW is sentenced to
life in prison. Rashad Owens found guilty of captil murder which
means he intentionally drove his car in to the crowd at the Austin
music festival earlier last year. The driver killed 4 people and at 23
the driver was sentenced to life in prison.
wolf Alice have announced a huge UK and Ireland o2 academy tour
in march. They play 15 dates starting from the 4th of march to the
27th of march. This is the only tour that has been announced since
their last 2 month tour across the uk, USA and Canada tour with
drenge and made violent. This uk tour is yet to announce support
acts but o2 priority tickets went on sale the 21 October and general
sale goes on sale 23rd October.
apple music have declared that Spotify have three times more
paying subscribers with apple only have 6.5 million world wide.appel
music only started in June 2016, the service offers a 3 month free
trial period and only 6.5 million have continued using the service
and pay for it. 8.5 users still use the free 3 month trial. Apple music
is the 2nd most used streaming site in the world, number 1 being
Spotify with 20million. A member of u2 has recently stated that
the entire music industry is broken and its because of streaming
services.
At the end of October foo fighters released a countdown to the 23rd
of November, some people thought it was a countdown to the
announcement of foo fighters sonic highways tv show, others
think it is when Dave Grohl final gets his cast off after he broke hi
leg in July. Nothing has been hinted at but a post on their Instagram
of the words the Nish is drawn inside in front a a black and white
picture of a bungalow.
