Introduction
Today you be exploring deepest parts of the ocean your own submersible vehicle,
alongside some crew members! Each group will research their vehicle, the depths
at which it can go and the dangers, and living organisms that can live deep in the
sea. Once the research is done you will pair up with 2 other crew members (3 to
each group) and create a PowerPoint presentation over your research. What do

you think you might learn about these vehicles, different depths of the ocean, and
these living organisms? Lets get to exploring and find out!

The Task
Objectives:
What information can you find about your submersible?
What depths can your submersible reach?
What are the dangers of going to those depths?
What living organisms can deep in the ocean?
Journal of your exploration. (Documenting the three answers to the three
questions above)
PowerPoint summarizing your research as a group.

The Process

Meet the Crew of the __(Insert Assigned Submersible Vehicle Name Here)____.
I will group you into groups of 3, and then you will get with your team and decide what
role each of you will take in this exploration. Once you have assumed your role you will
fulfill your duties then meet back with your crew and work on your PowerPoint.

Crew Roles
Captain: The captain will be responsible for researching the submersible vehicle that
this crew will be using in their exploration. This information will be documented in the
journal. The entry will include at least 3 interesting facts about the submersible.
NOTE: I will assign you a submersible vehicle to research.

Chemist: The chemist will decide the depth of the ocean to be explored and calculate
the time it takes to ascend to different depths and record it in their journal. They will
also research the possible problems with going to these depths and name at least 2.

Biologist: The biologist will research living organisms that can survive at deep depths
of the ocean and record it in their journal. They will also list at least two interesting
facts about that living organism (animal) and include an image of it.
After each crew member has completed their tasks, the crew will meet and develop a
PowerPoint including information about their adventure. The PowerPoint will be at least
3 or more slides, plus a title slide.
