Background knowledge on reading.
Reading is a lifelong process that requires repetitive
application skills in a creatively learning different topics in varied
cognitive ways. This is the definition we formulated in our Ed57
class putting together some of our perspectives in reading. It was
quite complicated to understand because it was a combination of
so many viewpoints about reading. In sum, reading has no single
definition just like the way readers interpret text differently. There
is no two readers read exactly the same because the moment-tomoment reading process is unique. I heard and learned so many
things about reading but the most important is not just the
knowledge I have learned but the action it takes to develop what I
already know.
Learning from the balanced reading program, the different
reading skills, the four components of reading and the different
theories and principles of reading were really my best experience
of learning because Im not just able to gain information but
instead Im also able to experience or put into action some of
those. Reading then does not have any alternatives in which you
can choose for a correct option. You are the one to set for your
purpose not because it is the right way or the right thing to do but
because you know what you are supposed to do.

Some people may read fluently but not comprehensively and

some have the ability to construct meaning from the text but they
are not that fluent at all. So reading for me is an interplay
between the readers preexisting knowledge and the written
content. The readers calls on experience, language, and prior
knowledge to anticipate and understand the authors written
language. Thus, readers both bring meaning to print and take
meaning from print with the use of all the reading skills. Good
readers are able to establish the relationship between what
author explicitly declares and what he implicitly says. They use
not only the clues found in the text but also their schema.
Learning to read is a process that cannot be completed in just a
minute. It takes time and much effort before a person could learn
how to efficiently and effectively read.
