Originating Idea
Children are to feel the texture of the oobleck and notice how it can go from a
solid to a liquid in a matter of seconds.
Materials
Corn Starch, water, bowls, smocks
Curriculum Content:
Using and describing something in several ways.
Holding more than one attribute in mind at a time.

Beginning
Introduce activity at small group, giving children an option to participate.

Middle:
Children will explore the texture of oobleck and how it differs in liquid and solid
states. As well as notice how fast it goes from liquid to solid and vice versa.

Extensions:
Earlier: Touching the oobleck, just getting a feel of the texture and smell.

Later: Watching it change states while it is in their hands. And seeing how it stays a
solid in the bowl with a bit of liquid sitting on top

End
Children with throw the bowls of the obleeck mixture in the trash then take their
smock off and wash their hand after.

Follow-up Ideas:
1. Begin to talk about the different states of matter, referencing the oobleck they just
played with.
2. Read Dr. Seuss book about oobleck
