Factors within the student related to functioning

My big ideas from the readings: A central auditory processing disorder may cause language and
reading problems, attentional problems and autistic spectrum disorders. Structures past the cochlea (CAP)
are less understood than other parts of this disorder. Some may have different physiological bases. This
disorder affects perception of both speech and non-speech.
My big ideas from the group presentation: My biggest idea from this presentation was that a child
with CAPD becomes overwhelmed very easily. Hearing a few directions becomes difficult and forgotten
easily. Background noise is very loud and takes control of what they are supposed to be listening to.

Reflection (What does this mean for my practice?): This is very interesting to me now that I
experienced it myself during the activity. I need to slow things down for the child. Start with one task at a
time with short directions. I need to be very patient with these types of children.
