Adams, C. (2002). Practitioner review: The assessment of language

pragmatics. Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry, 43, 973987.
Topics addressed:
Foundations of condition, evidence, white brain matter model, pragmatic
impairment, etc.
Summary (include question, participants, methods, results)
Learning disabilities are very difficult to diagnose. It has been determined
by specific characteristics such as impaired writing, reading, or grammar.
Semantic and pragmatic language skills are also affected with this
disorder. Those factors can be considered to be impaired communicative
skills. In order to work with children with this disorder, one may treat it as
a developmental delay. There are different types of learning disabilities
as well, so it is important to focus directly on what the child needs.

This article was published within the last 20 years. The sources used
were also around 20 years of age. This could conclude that more
discoveries have been made about learning disabilities. New types may
have been discovered as well as severity and solutions. I think this article
is very factual based and provides an emotion about how the children
struggle. Looking at the different sources used in this article, I would
definitely say that this author is credible. I can tell that the author did
research and made sure to use good sources.
Reflect:
(How was this source helpful? How does it change how you think about
this topic? How does it support or argue your topic?
I think this source was very helpful besides it being a little out of date. It
gave me basic knowledge on the types and severities of learning
disabilities. Today, there are probably more types of learning disabilities.
So, if I needed to be updated, I would probably move to a newer source. I
think that determining a learning disability could be very difficult. One
really has to sit down one on one with the child and ask what is needed.
This somewhat relates to high functioning autism just in the sense that
people with HFA may need specific things in order to succeed.
