Text Set Assignment
Grade level: 2nd
Sol: 2.1
Theme: Egypt
Rationale: Text sets are a great resource to have so that you can offer all of your students the
opportunity to learn and read material that is on their level. I chose the topic of Egypt, because in
SOL 2.1 it states that students will need to be able to explain how the influences of ancient Egypt
have molded todays life. I believe that with this topic and text set, all students will be able to
make the connection with the past, and how life is different and better thanks to the contributions
of the Egyptians. I remember learning about Egypt when I was a second grader and I always
wished I could learn more in depth about it. With this text set, the linguistic and non-linguistic
materials I chose will help students understand the deeper meaning of the history and
contributions of ancient Egypt.
