3. Announcements:

• Green Fund proposals have advanced through the Segregated University Fee Allocation
Committee (SUFAC). Various projects were forwarded to Student Senate, including the
bicycle powered concert proposal. The photovoltaic project for the REC is still under
discussion. JCES members are encouraged to attend the March 10 Student Senate
meeting, which will consider the photovoltaic project. The Zimride proposal was not
recommended for funding.
• The new application date for Green Fund proposals is March 22.
• The Wisconsin Department of Administration (DOA) apparently will be looking at
making changes to the UW-L coal-fired heating plant.
• Will Allen will be coming to La Crosse on April 13th.
• Wisconsin Rideshare made a presentation to the Green Transportation Council this week.
This may be a project that JCES should promote.
• Recycle Mania promotions, including a dance contest, are underway. The UW-L
recycling web site is being re-designed.
• Low-flow shower heads are being evaluated in residence halls on campus.

4. Larry presented information regarding sustainability initiatives on university

campuses (Sustainable Learning Communities at the University of New Hampshire
and the Winnebago Project at UW-Oshkosh).

5. Donna Anderson discussed a minor in sustainability that is being considered in the

College of Business (CBA). There was further discussion about how this minor in
CBA could possibly interface with the minor in Environmental Studies. The
Ecological Literacy workgroup will facilitate a meeting of interested faculty and staff
to discuss possible relationships between the proposed CBA minor and the
Environmental Studies minor.

6. Our next meeting will be March 26.
