BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH Gabriel Artenstine was a member of the Kansas Militia and became acquaintances with Oscar Braecklein, a Kansas City druggist. Artenstine and the Kansas Militia fought in the Battle of Westport during the American Civil War. SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE The collection consists of a handwritten letter from Gabriel Artenstine to Oscar Braecklein, a captain in the Union army. The letter, written November 30, 1864, from Leavenworth, Kansas, describes the Battle of Westport. The collection also includes a transcript of the letter.
