Rationale:
-Appealing to students first hand experience in making and being a new friend.
Standards:

Objective:
-Students will be able to read a passage and answer questions according to the evidence
in the text.
Procedures:
The teacher will ask the students to grab their Charlottes Web book and gather the
students around the carpet and in front of the white board.
She will then reintroduce the first few chapters up the book up to chapter 7.
First she will give an overview of the chapters then ask students to volunteer to give
a brief summary of the chapter of their choosing to help remind the students of the
events that happened during that chapter.

page41.

thoughsheisprettyand,ofcourse,clever?Wilburwasmerelysufferingthe
doubtsandfearsthatoftengowithfindinganewfriend.Ingoodtimehewasto
discoverthathewasmistakenaboutCharlotte.Underneathherratherboldand
cruelexterior,shehadakindheart,andshewastoproveloyalandtruetothe

veryend.
Before asking questions that the teacher had prepared, she asks the students what
they think about think passage. How does this passage make you feel? Can you
relate to how Wilbur is feeling about Charlotte?

First the students will be able to answer these discussion
questions on their own and then the teacher will ask the students
to turn and talk to a partner.

Materials:
-Book: Charlottes Web by E.B White
Assessments:
- The teacher will go around to each turn and talk group and listen to the discussions
that are happening between the students. The questions are thought provoking questions
which allow students to share personal experiences that relates to the text.
Differentiation:
-For students who are having a hard time understand the passage, the teacher will work
with these students individually and read sentence by sentence and decode what the text
is trying to say.
Future Connections:
-This lesson will help with the writing mini lesson that will be done a few days after this
lesson. The teacher will remind the students of this lesson as a introductions to the mini
lesson which goes hand in hand with this lesson.
