Priority #1

Wireless Microphone Headsets

The wireless microphone headset would be used for creating podcasts. Having a wireless headset
allows for the creator of the podcast to have their hands free. Some of the high school teachers
have expressed an interest in podcasting their classroom lectures and using iTunes to host these
podcasts. Many students at the school are athletes and they miss a lot of class time for sports
travel. This is primarily because Frederica Academy is located in the southeast corner of the state
and competes against GISA schools from all over the state. According to the athletic director,
90% of the high school students participate in school sports. Of that 90%, 70% are multisport
athletes. The average number of days missed is 6-10 days per sports season. If some teachers will
take the lead in podcasting their classroom lectures, others might follow. I would like to purchase
five wireless microphone headsets to start with.

Priority #2

Digital Cameras
At the present time, the media center does not possess any digital cameras. There are often
requests for a camera from the classroom teachers. They would be used for special events, field
trips and classroom projects. The media specialist expressed a need for the media center to have a
digital camera so that she can keep the media center webpage on the school website current. I
would request to purchase five cameras.

TV with DVD/VHS Built In

All of the classrooms have either a LCD projection system for showing a DVD/VHS or a
mounted TV in the classroom. Presently the media center has one TV with DVD/VHS player
built in on a rolling cart for check out. There are times when the technology does not operate as
expected and a back up is needed from the media center. Also, there are times that the TV set up
on a rolling cart is needed in the gym, lunch room or other areas of the school that do not have a
permanent TV set up. In addition, there are times when the one for check out from the media
center is not enough. I would like to purchase the combo unit because of the convenience and
ease of use for the user. I understand that if one component on a combo TV/DVD/VHS goes
wrong that it is not cost effective to fix it. However, I feel that for the convenience, it is worth the
risk. I would like to purchase one TV/DVD/VHS combo unit.

Overhead Projector
It is the school’s policy that the classroom overhead projectors are purchased by the departments
(not the media center) and they stay in the classrooms. There are times when an overhead is
needed for check out from the media center when the classroom overhead projector does not
work properly or a teacher who does not have one needs to use one temporarily for a particular
lesson. Currently the media center has one older overhead projector on a rolling cart for check-
out. The need is often greater than this. I would like to purchase one overhead projector.

LCD Projector

The media center needs a LCD projector on a rolling cart for use by the entire school for weekly
assemblies and programs. The media center has a laptop and a portable projection screen, but the
LCD projector is presently borrowed from a presentation room in the high school when this
complete set up is needed. Thus, the presentation set up for programs and assemblies in the gym
and cafeteria is not an easy one. The entire set up should come from the media center for check
out. I would like to purchase one LCD projector.

Priority # 3 –TV with DVD/VHS Built In
Note – the tube (rather than LCD flat screen) TV is hard to find. I think they
are safer on a rolling cart because they are more stable than the new flat
screens. I understand that it is sometimes not good to buy the combo TV’s
because if one part goes bad then the entire unit is bad. However, for this
purpose and this price I think it best suits the immediate need.
