Dynamics
Class Setting: An 1st or 2nd elementary general music class with basic
understanding of music.
Overall Goals/National Standards:
1. Sing expressively with attention to dynamics, phrasing, and
articulation.
2. Sing independently and in ensembles maintaining good breath
control, pitch, diction, tone quality, and posture.
Behavioral Objectives:
1. The students will work in a group to determine how to perform
the song Twinkle Twinkle Little Star with their given dynamic.
2. The students will echo sing different lines of the song according
to the dynamic that the teacher sings.
Materials:
1. Row, Row, Row Your Boat
2. Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
3. Piano
4. Power Point with different dynamic symbols
Procedures:
1. Opening
-Students will stand and stretch.
-Students will perform vocal sirens.
2. Row, Row, Row Your Boat
-Students will sing Row, Row, Row Your Boat.
-The teacher will perform Row, Row, Row Your Boat singing the
first part loud and the second part quiet. Students will raise their
hands when they recognize something different between the
verses.
-The students will echo sing Row, Row, Row Your Boat using the
different dynamics.
-The teacher will divide the students into 4 groups and assign
them a dynamic (Forte, Piano, Crescendo, Decrescendo).
-The students will sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.
-The students will determine in their groups how to perform the
song Twinkle Twinkle Little Star using their assigned dynamics.
-The students will perform the song and the class will decide
which dynamic they were assigned.
Assignment:
1. The teacher will have the students all sing Twinkle Twinkle
Little Star using the correct dynamics while the teacher shouts
out which dynamic they should sing with.
