If an animal cell was placed into a 1.0 M solution, it would lose water and shrivel up. This I
because the water wants to move from an area of high concentration to an area of low
concentration. This is because the solute concentration is higher outside the cell, so in an attempt
to equalize the water, it will move outside. Compared to a 0.0 M solution, the cell would gain
water. Therefore, the cell is hypotonic and it is in a hypertonic environment. Isotonic is where the
movement of water is equally into and out of the cell.
