History-Social Science Reflection
After reading from the History-Social Science framework, I need to know about the
cultures, societies, and economic systems that prevail in other parts of the world and to recognize
the political and cultural barriers that divide people as well as the common human qualities that
unite them to teach in an elementary school.
My history classes have prepared me. For example my History 301 class really helped me
to understand history better. I learned a lot by doing group activities and projects in class. I liked
the activities we would do because I can implement them later in my future classroom. I think
group discussions, activities, and projects really help students understand history.
The areas of history-social science I feel well prepared in are grades Kindergarten
through fourth grade. For example, for kinder they learn about Learning and Working now and
Long Ago. In first grade they learn about A childs place in time and space. In second grade
they learn about people who make a difference. In the third grade they learn about Continuity
and Change. In fourth grade they learn about California: A changing state.
The areas I feel less prepared in are on grades 5-8th. For example, in these grades they
learn about United States History, and Geography, World History: Ancient Civilization, Medieval
and Early Modern times, and about growth and conflict. I would have to review more on these
topics.
The artifact I plan to share is from my History 301 class. I will use an essay we had to
write for a project which was about historical places. The work sample will demonstrate my
knowledge and learning of how to appreciate history; to know important historical places and

their background. The work sample connects to my learning and personal experiences in
teaching history-social science by researching and learning about history. I was able to make
connections of how I analyzed history topics back in high school and now as a college student I
am able to analyze topics more in depth. Therefore, I have seen that throughout the years I have
improved when it comes to studying about history.
