GUIDELINES FOR FINAL ASSIGNMENT: PREPARING AN

ENGLISH COURSE
(Post Graduate Program of English Education)
Instructions:
The work should be computerized
Use your imagination; you do not need to have real data,
as long it is logical and coherence.
Submit at the end of Course (at the middle of December,
2015)

Overview/Rational (what is the course about)
Describe general plan of designing English Teaching Program based
on your topic. Describe who is the learners, why they want to learn
English, how long the course will take place; explain the general
material and activities; Describe target need of the learners briefly,
etc.
Identify learners need
Necessity: demand of the target situation
Lack, what the learners know and what the learners have not
known
and want; (e.g.: wanting to talk on the telephone, need to be able to
survive, need to write business letter, to be medical works, doctors, nurses,
etc)
Identify situation (who are the learners; who is the teacher, learning
situation (Class, facility. etc)
Decide/select the theoretical view of language and language
learning as the basis of making syllabus and mention the reason
why the theory is used.

Identify learners target situation (for example: for study, for


work, how, what will the language be used; who will the learner
use language with.
Analyzing learning need; why are the learners taking the course

How do the learners learn


Formulate Goal (general)
Formulate Objectives (specific)
Create syllabus (look at the book of Hutchinson page 86 or
Richard, what type of syllabus will be used, one type or
combination, and why; briefly describe the syllabus)
Design materials to exemplify syllabus items; it can be in
form of units, with the specific objectives, activities (methods);
illustrate the sample of material (look at example at Hutchinson
book page 112-118 and 134 or Richard, and give example of
tasks to focus on skill
Establish evaluation procedures which require the use of skills,
mention the type of test, and give examples.
