STEM CELL THERAPY TRIALS

Stem Cells- Types used in this

Open Trial and Basic Ethical
Implications
Stem Cells refer to the undifferentiated status of a cell of a multicellular
organism. They have the ability to indefinitely give rise to cells of the same
time, and from which certain types of cells can arise through differentiation.
Pluripotent- give rise to all somatic cells in an organism (extracted from
early embryonic tissue)
Ethical implications are highly debated due to moral and political issues.
Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (IPS)- Artificially dedifferentiated stem cells (derived
from somatic cells).
Ethical implications are avoided due to no moral complication surrounding derivation methods (nonembryonic)

Application of IPS Cells in

Regenerative Medicine.
This open trial aims to develop organelle and microtubule communication
after a spinal cord injury through the introduction of IPS cells.
It has been observed that embryonic totipotent and pluripotent stem cells
can reestablish certain neural activity within the cells of the spinal cord. IPS
Cells have not been studied and revealed to do the same.
IPS cells, although dedifferentiated into a pluripotent state, exhibit some
problems considered deviant from the function and development of
embryonically derived toti- and pluripotent cells.

Trial #4452: IPS Cells

This trial aims to initiate microtubule and organelle responses within
patients with spinal cord injuries through the introduction of artificially
induced pluripotent stem (IPS) cells.
These symptoms of a spinal cord injury (paralysis, loss of function, etc.), until the
onset of stem cell gene therapy were accepted to be irreversible.
The study will include 50 participants, ages 15-55. IPS cell tissue will be applied to
the specified area, determined on an individualistic evaluation. Over 2 years the
patients will be monitored through imaging technology (x-ray and MRI w/o
contrast). Statistics on microtubule activation and organelle activity will be taken
and displayed to our offices on a bi-monthly basis.
