Its my 4th day of observation and as time passes, I have noticed the students progress. I
mentioned a student in my 2nd task, a girl, Widad who would latch on to her mother every
morning and get dragged forcefully into the classroom. We have been learning about Behavior
Management Strategies in our Learning to Teach in the Contemporary UAE 1a class, and one of
the things that Ms. Antoinette and Ms. Maryam have taught us is the rewarding system. I have
seen Ms. Ebtihal use this strategy with Widad, she told her that if she didnt cry for the whole
week shell receive a gift in exchange at the end of the week. I saw Widad come to class without
anyone escorting her and with a smile plastered on her face and I wondered how she did it.
Theres also this student, Ali who would distract the teacher and his fellow classmates and get
violent sometimes. My aunt Mariam, whos a teacher happened to be called in by Al Darari
Kindergarten to study his current state, she would come to class once in a while and connect with
him. While reading him a story she noticed how bright his face turned when he saw drawings of
birds, and she figured that he loved them. A few days later I was telling her about how Ali fell
asleep while the other children were running around and playing, she decided to buy him a bird
and we all thought that it would motivate him a little. Unfortunately, during my 4th observation,
the teacher and I were shocked at how he was acting and Ms. Ebtihal has been very patient with
him but it has reached the limit where they had no choice but to call his parents and meet with
them.
