Movement Skills and Concepts


Names: Anthony Ramos and Natalia Balestra
Lesson Objectives:
To learn to move in a coordinated manner.
To work cooperatively with others when handling the parachute.
To perform body management skills by performing a variety of movements through hoops.

Equipment:

Introductory Activity (5 minutes)


Lesson Objectives & Equipment
Objective:
To learn to move in an evasive manner.
Equipment:
Whistle

Task/ Activity
Management:
Students will be asked to take a lap around the perimeter
then meet me in the middle to a horseshoe formation. I will
inform students about the signals I will use.
London Bridge Tag:
1) Two students will be chosen to be it.
2) The rest of the students will run within the
designated area to avoid being tagged.
3) If tagged, the student must perform jumping jacks
until another student is tagged.
4) They will then join hands to make a bridge and
another student, who has not been tagged, will run
under the bridge to relieve the other two students.
5) To avoid being tagged, the students will be
encouraged to move in a desired manner (i.e.
dodging).

Fitness Activity (5-7 minutes)

To learn how to work together in a
cooperative manner when handling
the parachute.
Equipment:
Parachute

Task/Activity

Formation

Management:
Once I blow the whistle twice, students will get into
horseshoe formation. I will then instruct students to
create a circle around parachute and wait for further
instruction before touching the parachute.
Parachute Fitness:
1) Practice HOLD signal
2) The students will be asked to perform different
movements while holding onto the parachute:
3) Hop while holding parachute in left hand
counter clockwise. (music)
4) Shake chute. (no music)
5) Slide counterclockwise while holding chute,
then counter clockwise. (music)
6) Sit and perform crunches. (no music)
7) Skip clockwise while holding chute with right
hand. (music)
8) Freeze, face the center, and stretch the chute
tightly. Hold for 8-12 seconds. Repeat. (no
music)

Lesson Focus (7-10 minutes)


Lesson Objectives & Equipment
Lesson Objectives:
To perform body management
skills by performing a variety of
movements through hoops.
Equipment:
-Hula Hoops
Note:
Each group uses 4 or 5 hoops and
places them in a line on the floor.

Task/Activity
Hula Hoop Activities:
1. Have students walk, hop, and jump through or
on the sides of the hoops.
2. Have students leap over the hoops from the
side.
3. Have students run around the hoops.
4. Have students jump in and out of the hoops
alternately.
5. Have students jump through the center without
touching any hoops around.
6. Have students do different animal walks such
as the bunny jump, frog jump, crab walk, or
bear walk.
7. Have students do push-ups using the position of
the hoops on the floor.
8. Have the students go through the hoops while
doing high knees.
9. Have the students jog around the hoops.
10. Have the students hop on the right leg and then
hop on left leg.

Teaching Hints
1. This is an excellent
activity to teach
cooperative skills. The
students should be
encouraged to learn
different type of hula hoop
exercises and take turns
performing through the
hula hoops.
2. During the beginning of
the hoop activities, allow
the students to pick up a
hula hoop and perform an
individual activity.

Game (5-7 minutes)

peers back in the game if they are
tagged.

How to Play Hospital Tag:

**Note: Before playing, let


everyone know the boundaries of
the playing/running area. If anyone
exceeds those boundaries, they will
automatically be out of the game.**

Formation

1. Ask for two volunteers. These two people


will be it.

2. When you say go, the people who are it


will try to tag as many people as possible. If
one of volunteers tags another person, the
tagged person needs to run around the cone area
once and go back in the game.
3. The last person remaining in the game is the
winner.

Summary: Active, fun


game for kids. Keep
the heart rate up while
running around.
