Laid to Rest on September 28, 2001

Age: 43
Employer: FDNY
Place of death: New York, New York
Community: Ronkonkoma
County: Suffolk

James Amato 43 captain FDNY Squad 1. The Ronkonkoma resident loved to spend
time with his wife and four children Sean Tara Katherine and Ashley and to take
vacations with his brother Lee a firefighter in Florida. He had been a college wrestler
and loved to be in the middle of the action.
Amato, 43, an Oakdale native who attended Connetquot High School, always talked
about life at his Park Slope firehouse, and couldn't wait to get back from family vacations
so that he could return to the "place where he felt tranquil," his wife said. But at home,
he was a pushover for his children: Sean, 21, Tara, 14, Katherine, 13, and Ashley, 8,
spending every moment he could with them.

As Jehovah's Witnesses, Amato and his wife also dedicated many hours on days off to

preaching their faith, and church members rallied around the family after 9/11.
James Amato was a caring person he loved his 4 daughters and his wife and his family
at the fire department and spent many years working at the fire department he was a
hard worker he was a chief. James Arnato was a happy and nice man one time after
they put out a fire another fire fighter asked him to wait while he got the hose set up and
a few seconds later a small fire started and they to it out with a fire extinguisher and after
they took it out James Arnato laughed and said to another fire fighter brother Timing is
everything Some of the Interesting things about James Arnato is when he was little he
had a lot of close calls and when he was in high school he was a wrestler and joined the
team and won a lot of matches.
The reason why I wanted to memorialize him is because he had the same life as me and
his life that he had is the life I wanted in the future the reason why were kind of similar is
because he had some close calls for me I got in a few car accidents the most recent one
was a few months I was leaving family dollar and was going home with my dad and
when the light signal turned green we accelerated but when we crossed a white guy was
on his phone and wasnt paying attention and crashed into my dads car and there was a
big dent and it was a few inches away from me. And how his life is the way I want it to
be but not with 4 kids just one but the way he treats his kids is the same way I am to my
little cousins and nephews and he is a fire fighter and I want to become a fire fighter.
