Christmas Greetings
From everyone at Duclos School to our students and their
families; We wish you Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas and a
Happy New Year!
Welcome to the Duclos Christmas Concert 2015
Duclos students will perform four identical concerts over two days. Four
performances reduces crowding and gives everyone a seat. Please do not
leave your coats on chairs between performances. Everyone gets a
chance for a good seat. We also have to clean and tidy between shows.
Group one will be performing on Tuesday, December 15th. Group 2 will be
performing on Wednesday, December 16th. If a student cannot perform on
one night, he/she can perform on the other night. The rehearsals,
costumes, and presentations will be the same for each show. If brothers or
sisters are not on the same night, we will be happy to move them to the
other night so all family members perform in the same show. Please let your
childs teacher know if your child needs to be moved to the opposite
evening.

School Council Silent Auction

During both evening performances,
School council will be hosting a Silent
Auction. Each night there will be different
Silent Auction pieces available.

Attendance Reminder
If your children will not be attending school on any given day, because of
illness or a family emergency, please be sure to phone the school (780826-3992) and let the office know. This way we can ensure that every child
is safe and accounted for. For your convenience we have voicemail
available from 4:00 pm to 8:30 am. We thank parents for taking time to call
us when your children are absent. We work to ensure the safety of all
students.

Duclos Absentee/Late Check Program: If the school is not aware of a

students whereabouts, we have a regular safety check program. If the
school does not know where a late or absent child is the home will be
called to confirm the safety of the child. This is for the care of all students.

There will be no Milk Order Forms going home with students. For your

Daily At Home Reading is for All Students

Duclos School promotes and celebrates daily at home reading for all
students.

Parent/Teacher Interviews

Home reading for at least 15 to 20 minutes is a part of students required

daily work.

Thank you to everyone who

attended Parent Teacher
Interviews.

What does this mean for children? Regular reading at home and school
provides significant life-long benefits.

Reminder

Help your students reap these advantages by encouraging their love of

words and their love of books. Life can get hectic, even for our youngest
students, but helping them form a daily reading habit really can make a
huge difference for their success in school now and in the future.
Be sure you support your childs daily at home reading.
Bears for Buddies
Each year in Kindergarten we encourage our classes to give back to the
community as a service project. This year we have decided to collect
Teddy Bears/toys to help support our communitys Santas Elves
Program. Santas Elves is a non-profit organization run by the
students at B.C.H.S. The toys are given at Christmas time to less
fortunate families. Our Bears for Buddies program will run until
December 3, 2015. We encourage you to spread the word! Thank you to
those who attended our annual Kindergarten Teddy Bears Picnic.

Operation Christmas Child
Duclos school thanks you for
donating to Operation Christmas
Child this year. We are happy to
have filled 55 shoe boxes with toys,
supplies, and treats for children in
impoverished parts of the world at
Christmas time. We appreciate
your kindness and generosity.

Northern Lights and Duclos School Cash Online system is up and running for the 2015-2016 school year. In
order to streamline ordering, all hot lunch orders starting in January 2016 will be done online only.

Signing up for your School Cash Online account is easy. You need your childs Alberta Student Number
(ASN). You can get this number by calling our school office, or find it located on the students progress report,
or ask your childs teacher.
New items will be added to the School Cash Online system as we go through the year: field trips, school
clothing, skiing, swimming, etc.

WHAT DOES OUR FAMILY DO IN THE CASE OF INCLEMENT WEATHER AND BUS TRANSPORTATION?
- If you are unsure if buses are running check the NLSD website for current updates. An APP can also be
downloaded to alert you of bus route changes.
- It is the Parents final decision if you want to have your child go to the school on the bus. Schools are almost
always open.
-Have a PLAN B for your child if the bus does not run (ie. where do they go/can they get back in house/who do
they call)
-Always dress for the weather.
