Student name: Chelsea Upshaw

Date: 9/9/2015
Portfolio Artifact Description: Can O Your Town- Design a label that represents
your hometown. Use a program to manipulate 2 dimensional shapes as well as
research facts.
What you learned: I learned that grouping shapes is a life saver! Take the barcode
for example; once I was able to group all of the individual lines so the whole piece
was just one shape then I was able to move it around more easily. I liked how this
project required research and caused me to be creative with the things I chose to
represent my town.
National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS)T
Addressed: Standard #4 Students will use critical thinking skills to plan and
conduct research, manage projects, solve problems, and make informed decisions
using appropriate digital tools and resources. Standard #1 The students will
demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative
products and processes using technology. Standard #1 b) Create original works as a
means of personal or group expression
Application of Skills Learned for the Future: This project has endless
applications. It would be a great get to know you activity to see where everyone is
from or it could be a can all about the student. It would also make a great
geography lesson if each student picked a state or even a country. You could take it
a step further and have the students print their label and then fill their can with
objects (or pictures of objects) that further represent their label.
