Representing Patterns in a Variety of Ways

So far we have been representing patterns in 4

different ways:

Pictures
Table of Values
Pattern Rules
Relationship Rules

There is one more way!

Your group is being given a set of flash cards. See if
you can match up the cards correctly. You should be
able to find series of 3 cards that match.

Linear Relations
1. Create a growing number pattern by adding the
same amount each time.
2. Model the first 4 terms in your pattern using tiles,
cubes, or counters. Your model should show how
the pattern grows.
3. Create a table of values for your pattern that
relates the term numbers to the term values.
4. Use grid paper to graph your pattern. How would
you describe your graph?
5. Why might you call the relationship between the
term numbers and the term values a linear
relation?
6. Extend your graph to determine the value of the
10th term in your pattern.
7. What is the relationship rule that describes your
pattern?
