Aftercarefulconsideration,activediscussion,andreflectiononthecurrentschedulechange
procedures,theSharedDecisionMakingCommitteewouldliketomakethefollowing
recommendationstoensureamoreconsistentpracticeinschedulechangesforallstudents.

1. Wheninformingstudentsandfamiliesaboutschedulechangeweek,pleaseincludethe
followingaslegitimatereasonstorequestaschedulechange/meetwithguidance.
a. Requestingachangeduetoadirectstudentpriorexperiencewithateacher.
b. Requestingachangetohavealunchperiodwithfriends
c. Errorsintheschedule,includingbutnotlimitedto:
i.
Allmajorcorecoursesinarow
ii.
Coursechange(ExampleAPWorldtoAPEuro,APPhysicstoAP
Environmental,etc.)
iii.
Notgettingrequestedelectives
iv.
Toomanystudyhalls
v.
Absenceofalunchperiod
vi.
Courselevelchange
vii.
IEPchanges
d. Anyothersignificantissueabouttheirschedulewhichthestudentfeelsiscritical
todiscusswiththeircounselorpriortothestartofschool.

2. Thefollowingissuesshouldbeaddressedduringthespringschedulingmeetingwith
guidance.
a. Requestingaparticularsubjecttobeinthemorningorafternoon.
b. Havingfallbackoptionsavailablethatwouldlimitmajorchangestoastudents
scheduleshouldacourseneedtobedropped.

Anancillarypointfromthisdiscussionwastheimportanceofparitybetweengradingpractices
andcourseworkloadforstudentsthatareinthesamecoursebuthavedifferentteachers.
Whileitisunderstoodthatstudentsshouldnotuseteacherselectionasabasisforaschedule
changerequest,itisourrecommendationthatactionbetakentocreateamoreconsistent
educationalexperienceforstudents.
