Mrs. Barbara OConnor
Southern Arizona Veteran Health Care System
Tucson AZ, 85723
Dear Mrs. OConnor,
My name is Amy Aragon Pollock, I met you at the job fair held at The University of Arizona on
November 7, 2015. Per your guidance, I am submitting my resume for a nursing position in the
perioperative unit at the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System for a position as an Operating
Room nurse. I am a new graduate of The University of Arizona prestigious College of Nursing. I
am also a member the Air Force Reserve at Davis Monthan Air Force Base. Im part of the 943rd
Aerospace Medicine Squadrons Optometry section. Acting as the units Self Aid Buddy Care
Instructor and Safety Representative I am able to implement my leadership and training skills.
The perioperative nursing position would be a great opportunity to enhance my education in an
area that I am passionate about. I am a highly motivated person that strives for excellence and am
ready to use these strengths to serve the veteran population and their families, which would be an
honor.
My passion for the operating room began when I became a surgical technologist. My devotion to
this profession started a desire to pursue a career in nursing, which incorporates my nursing
philosophy of the insatiable need to care for others. I have been a member of both the Heart team
and Orthopedic team. As a lead technician, I have worked alongside nurses to implement
evidence based aseptic technique practices which decreased the infection rate by five percent on
post-surgical patients.
In my 12 years as a surgical technician, I have enhanced my knowledge in many different
specialties: bariatric surgeries, DaVinci laparoscopic cases, Gynecology, Labor and Delivery,
Orthopedics, Ear Nose and Throat, Ophthalmology, Urology, Vascular and Neuro. Ive taken it
upon myself to stay up-to-date on the latest technological advances in the surgery technician
career field.
Being able to incorporate the I.C.A.R.E motto into practice would be very exciting because it
directly correlates with my values. I believe my work ethic and dedication to this specialty would
make me a great asset to the perioperative team. I would like to thank you for your time and hope
to hear from you soon.
Respectfully,
Amy Aragon Pollock
