Barca Praises Committee Action on

Regional Transit
MADISON – In response to the 8-1 bipartisan vote on a substitute
amendment to Assembly Bill 282, which would establish processes for the
creation of local regional transit authorities state-wide, Representative Barca
issued the following statement:

“I am encouraged by this bipartisan vote out of the Assembly Transportation

Committee. I would like to thank all of the members of the committee,
particularly Representative Al Ott, for working hard on developing a strong,
comprehensive proposal. I would also like to specifically thank
Representative Penny Bernard Schaber who led efforts to reconcile aspects
of the Fox Valley proposal, Representative Jen Shilling who had worked on
behalf of the La Crosse area, and Chairman John Steinbrink, who had the
difficult task of creating a compromise to establish a structure for interested
regions to develop a regional transit authority in our state.”

“There was broad support at the public hearing from business leaders, union
representatives, environmental advocates, and economic development
experts. They all agree that regional transit will create jobs and increase the competitiveness
of our business climate. I am pleased that the committee has now acted to move
the legislation forward and that we are one step closer to making regional
transit a reality across Wisconsin.”
