The research found that older adults ages 41-90, especially males, had the highest rates of UTIs. It recommends that patients with indwelling urinary catheters monitor for signs of UTIs and maintain genital hygiene to prevent infections. Nurses are advised to regularly check catheters for issues and monitor patients for UTI symptoms. Further research on additional factors related to catheters and UTIs is suggested.
