IEC 61850 is a standard for the design of electrical substation automation.

SICES IEC 61850 CONVERTER is an Intelligent Electronic Device (IED) compliant with this
new protocol particularly used in smart grids substations.
The device supports different protocols like IEC 61850 and Modbus.
These protocols can run over TCP/IP networks or substation LANs using high speed
switched Ethernet to obtain the necessary response times below four milliseconds for
protective relaying.
Using the IEC 61850 CONVERTER, the conversion available is from Modbus RTU / TCP to
IEC 61850
SICES IEC 61850 CONVERTER can be connected to any device supporting the Modbus
protocol.
The connection with SICES controllers is through RS485. It is possible to connect the
device to the controller using the RS232 port, by means of a proper RS232/485 converter.
