This document summarizes the candidate's experience attending weekly pupil personnel meetings to discuss at-risk students who were truant, had behavioral issues, familial problems, or health concerns. The meetings involved school administration, guidance counselors, a Project Yes representative, and a school nurse. In reflection, the candidate was saddened but not surprised that many of the issues facing students were intergenerational and that drug exposure was commonly reported.

Activity: Attending Pupil Personnel Meetings
Time:
5 Hours
Artifact: Description of At-Risk Students
Description:
I attended weekly Pupil Personnel meetings to work with staff to
discuss students who are constantly truant, who have behavioral issues, who have familial issues, and possibly, those who have health issues. The team consisted of school administration, Project Yes representative, Fort Hills PPW, the guidance department, and the school nurse.
Reflection:
Unfortunately, I used to attend these meetings on a regular basis
prior to beginning the Practicum experience. I was saddened, but not surprised, to learn that many of the names were the same, just a generation older, and that many of the same problems continue to exist in our families and our county. The most surprising aspect of these meetings was the high number of students who reported that either they or their family members were constantly exposed to drugs.
