I interviewed a middle school principal for 10 hours to learn about current teacher placements, how promotions are determined, and personnel policies. I found that while teachers are generally placed according to their certification, sometimes temporary placements outside a teacher's certification area occur due to need. Promotions consider experience and certifications. Personnel policies require all teachers be certified according to state guidelines, including for those from other states or fresh out of college.

Activity: Discussion with School Principal on Placement,
Promotions, and Policy
Time:
10 Hours
Artifact:
Written Discussion
Description:
In order to gain knowledge concerning current placements, how
promotions are given, and policies concerning personnel, I interviewed a middle school principal.
Reflection:
After my interview was conducted, I learned that although it is
rare and the Office of Personnel tries to avoid placing teachers in areas where they are not certified, it does happen. However, I also learned that many times, these placements are temporary or teachers take the Praxis in that particular field and become certified. In addition, I also learned that there are times when people come from different states or are fresh out of college, and they either have to take the Praxis to be state guidelines.
