For Grades 6 and 8 Between now and early February, all 6th and 8th graders will be participating in career exploration workshops through the guidance office. Each student will be completing an online career interest inventory and participating in a discussion of how to get information about careers that relate to their interests. The results of the inventory will be saved for them to reflect on when they write their Personalized Learning Plans next year. For Grades 9-12 The Governors Institutes of Vermont invite high school students to spend a weekend exploring STEM topics through their Winter Weekend programs. This year, topics include Astrophotography, Biomedical Research, Cybersecurity and Hacking, and Advanced Math for Girls. The Winter Weekends take place February 5-7 and February 19-21 at Goddard College. Tuition is on a sliding scale based on family income. The application deadline is January 13. MedQuest is a six-day summer program that is sponsored by the Southern Vermont Area Health Education Centers. It gives students the opportunity to engage in hands-on exploration of medical careers, and includes a hospital job shadow. The tuition for the program is $500, but some scholarships are available.
