Activity 1: Describing jobs

Activity/Procedure/Stage
Good morning, class! How are you
doing? Are you excited about the
Thanksgiving break? What are you
planning to do?
Look at the city map (p.87) and answer
your partners requests for directions
using next to, between, across from, on
the corner of.
E.g.: Where is the police station?
The police station is next to the
courthouse.
Pre stage
Now, lets get into the buildings and find
out the persons who work there. For e.g.,
Police station/police officer; Bank/teller;
school/teacher, head teacher, clerk,
security guard; Hospital/doctor, nurse,
administrative assistant; Restaurant/chef,
cook, waiter, cashier.
While stage
Task: Look at this list of jobs, and match
each job to the corresponding description
(please, refer to handout 1).
Then, compare your answers to your
partners.
Post stage
Look at the list of jobs in the handout
again and select one job that you like
best. Tell it to your partner.

What are the things that make a job
attractive? Look at the handout and select
the job features that are most important to
you when choosing a job.

While Stage
Choose your top three features and join
your group for discussion. Do you share
the same choices? Why do you think your
choices are the most important features?
Post-Stage
Report your group discussion to the class.
Each group will designate a
representative for the reporting task.
Pre-Stage
Now, lets look at what employers are
looking for when they hire someone. Look
at the list of things to consider when you
go to a job interview.
During Stage
Please, open your books, p. 131. Read the
text, and circle the positive attitudes that
the test and the handout have in common.
