1791) prohibiting
the federal
government from
imposing
excessive bail,
excessive fines, or
cruel and unusual
punishment.

Death
Penalty
The punishment of execution,
administered to someone
legally convicted of a capital
crime.

Why do we kill
people who kill
people to show
killing is wrong?

Everyone has different perspectives on


the death penalty but the death penalty
contradicts the 8th amendment. America
spends a lot of money on the death
penalty while we could be using that
money to help those have not killed and
deserve to be helped.
Statistics
1 out of 25 inmates on death row were
wrongly accused and were let free.

Why Death Penalty Is


the Wrong Way to Go
There is a better
alternative: life without
parole.
The death penalty puts
innocent lives at risk.
Race and place determine
who lives and who dies.
We pay many millions for
the death penalty system.
Poor quality defense
leaves many sentenced to
death.
Capital punishment does
not deter crime.
There is a better way to
help the families of murder
victims.

To kill the person who has killed someone


close to you is simply to continue the cycle
of violence which ultimately destroys the
avenger as well as the offender. That this
execution somehow gives 'closure' to a
tragedy is a myth. Expressing ones
violence simply reinforces the desire to
express it.

8th Amendment
The 8th amendment states there
should not be cruel an unusual
punishment among American
citizens.
"Death is not only an unusually
severe punishment, unusual in its
pain, in its finality, and in its
enormity, but it serves no penal

The number of executions since


1976 are 1,421
4.1% were executed and later
found innocent.
