Laboratory Assistant position
College of Agricultural & Life Sciences Palouse Research Extension Education Center
To whom it may concern:
My name is Daniel Korbel, and I am a student at the University of Idaho, studying fisheries resources and aquaculture, and I will be graduating December, 2016. I think I make a good candidate for this position because I have experience in the laboratory setting as well as in other related fields. I have become used to working with toxic, volatile substances from my time at both with Idaho Fish and Game, and the University of Idaho steam plant. I have often worked in dirty, wet, or hot places so adverse environmental conditions are not a problem. I am uniquely qualified for this position because of the variety of different jobs I have worked in the past. Each of my past jobs along with my experience at the University allowed me to fulfill many of the requirements for position, whether it be working with biological material, conducting soil analysis, preparing water samples, preparing reagents/solutions, understanding SOPs, using laboratory equipment including pH meters, pipets and balances, cleaning glassware, as well as working well with others, and doing my best every day. I also have extensive experience with data collection and maintaining electronic spreadsheets, as well as data entry and validation. I have a lot of experience in chemistry and biology from my four years of study at the University of Idaho, in courses such as microbiology, and numerous core biology courses. I am comfortable in a lab setting and understand how a great deal of the basic laboratory equipment works. I perform a variety of water tests daily at my current job at the steam plant, and am comfortable troubleshooting and working on my own. This position is very interesting to me and I would help me to receive the opportunity to build my resume and increase my laboratory skills by obtaining this job. I would also like the opportunity to interview for this position. Thank you for your consideration.
