1. Choose a topic: Solar System
2. Identify the standards and write objectives:
Objective: Students will show their knowledge of the Solar System by
answering questions in a QR code hunt. Students will further demonstrate
their knowledge of the Solar System by creating a visual aid based on the
answers of each question.
Standard: 4th Grade: Earth Systems Science
1. Earth is part of the solar system, which includes the Sun, Moon, and
other bodies the orbit the Sun in predictable patterns that lead to
observable paths of objects in the sky as seen from earth
Creativity and Innovation: a. apply existing knowledge to generate new ideas,
products, or processes b. create original works as a means of personal or group
expression c. use models and simulations to explore complex systems and issues
Research and information fluency b. locate, organize, analyze, evaluate, synthesize,
and ethically use information from a variety of sources and media c. evaluate and
select information sources and digital tools based on the appropriateness to specific
tasks d. process data and report results

3. Determine how you want students to proceed through the QR code

hunt and what they are to do with the information or what they are to
do at each clue. Describe your method here:
Students will use their mobile devices to find the correct answers to each of
the following 10 questions. Once every question is answered the students
will then create a visual aid to help them visualize the solar system based on
each of the questions. Students should mainly refer back to the questions
when creating a visual Solar System.
4. Write at least 10 questions or prompts (see table below):
Questions
Which planet is closest to the Sun?

QR Code

Which planets are on either side of

the Earth?

Which planet has the most moons?

The largest planet in our Solar

System is?

How many planets are in our Solar

System? (without Pluto)

How hot is the Sun?

How many planets are between the

Sun and the Earth

What is the smallest planet in our

Solar System?

What planet looks like it has rings

around it?

Name the planets in order starting

from the Sun.

Now students will create their own version of what the Solar System looks
like; refer back to the questions to help with visual representation. Please
include planet characteristics (moons and rings or big and small). Students
may look up other visual representation to further their creations if need be.
