Auxiliary steam system

Main turbine
Cylinders in Stage I turbines
HP turbine ( 10 stages)
IP turbine ( 9 stages)
LP turbine( 7 stages) double flow type
turbine is supported on 3 bearings
HP front ( bearing radial cum thrust )
LP front bearing ( journal )
LP rear (journal)
HP and IP are in one shaft and LP rotor is another shaft and
coupled through rigid coupling.
Cross over pipe will carry steam from IP turbine to LP turbine.
Exhausthood spray for cooling last stages of turbine
LP Diaphrams 2 nos as a protection to prevent condenser
pressurisation

Main turbine Continued

Front standard:
front of HP cylinder
Main Oil pump
Emergency governor located on the shaft
operating cylinder for control valve operation
servo motor for op. Cylinder
turbine hand tripping mechanism
turbine overspeed oil injection mechanism
Emergency Stop valves:
two nos. are provided to cut off steam supply in case of turbine
tripping
operated through control oil at a pressure of 14 ksc

Control valves:
operated through governing mechanism

Main turbine Continued

Control valves:
operated through a double acting servo motor

6 nos. of control valves are provided.

Control oil used t operate these valves
CAM is used to operate contrl valves through power cylinder

Barring gear:
located between LP turbine and generator.
5.4 rpm speed
uniform cooling and warming up of the turbine
Motor driven.
To be ensured always during cooling of the turbine.

Main turbine Continued

Combined reheat and interceptor valves:
operated through control oil.
Both stop valve and interceptor valves are located in the same
body.
Turbosupervisory instruments:
Differential expansion
Total expansion
Bearing vibration
Eccentricity
axial shift
Bearing metal temperatures
bearing return oil temperatures
oil flow to bearings.

Seal Steam System

To eliminate steam leakage to atmoshere or into the
turbine
Labyrinth glands are provided.
Seal steam pressure is 0.28 ksc in stage I
Seal steam pressure is .01 ksc in stage II
Gland steam exhaustes to suck out air and steam
mixture.
Seal steam controller oil operated used to control
pressure.
Self sealing above 120 mw.
