Cellular Respiration

Class/Period: 6th
Date: 12/5/15

STepEssential Question:
Investigate the molecular pathway through which light energy is transferred to chemical
energy and dispersed throughout an ecosystem
Questions:
Notes:
What is Glycolysis?
What is the Krebs
Cycle?

What is the ETC?

Glycolysis: Break down of glucose, releasing Pyruvic Acid

Step 1: Glucose is broken down into 2 Pyruvates, and producing 2
ATP
Krebs Cycle: Process of Aerobic Respiration of Pyruvates
Step 2: Pyruvate is transferred to the Krebs Cycle, undergoing
respiration,
producing 2 ATP
Aerobic Respiration: Producing energy with O2

Electron Transport Chain: Process that oxides NADH and FADH2

Step 3: NADH + FADH2
enter the ETC,
and produce
H20 and 34 ATP
Glycolysis:
Reactants- 1 Glucose
Products- 2 ATP, 2 NADH
Krebs Cycle:
Reactants- 02, 2 NADH
Products- 4 CO2, 6 NADH, 2
FADH
ETC:
Reactants- NADH, FADH
Products- 32-34 ATP
Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration are related because they
both have the same chemical equations, but
backwards. There Reactants are dependent on each
others products.
Cellular Respiration Equation: CHO + 6O 6CO + 6HO

Photosynthesis Equation: 6CO2 + 6H2O ------> C6H12O6 + 6O2

Summary:
In this weeks notes, we learned about Cellular Respiration and what it does in our cells.
Cellular respiration has 3 stages, Glycolysis, the Krebs Cycle, and the ETC.
Within these steps, each one produces ATP. ATP is the molecule for energy,
which we use in our bodies through movement. Through learning this, we
also compared this to Photosynthesis, which is the backwards chemical
equation of Cellular Respiration.
