MOTIVATION

I am Dyslexic.

DYSLEXIA
Dyslexia is a general term for
disorders that involve
difficulty in learning to read
or interpret words, letters and
other symbols, but do not
affect general intelligence.

ORIGIN OF DYSLEXIA
Dyslexia comes from the words:
The English term Dys- meaning difficult
The Greek term Lexis- meaning speech
Dyslexia was identified by Oswald Berkhan in 1881, but the term wasnt coined
until 1887 by Rudolf Berlin, who was an ophthalmologist in Stuttgart.

SYMPTOMS OF DYSLEXIA
Difficulties with:
learning to speak
organizing written and spoken language
learning letters and their sounds
memorizing number facts
spelling
reading
learning a foreign language
correctly doing math operations

HELPING STUDENT WITH


DYSLEXIA
Break down into small easily remembered pieces
Make sure they write their assignments correctly
Seat near front or teacher
Use different colors with blackboard
Be available outside of class

It is estimated that 1 in 10 people have dyslexia
Over 40 million American Adults are dyslexic - and only 2 million know it
20% of school-aged children in the US are dyslexic
Over 50% of NASA employees are dyslexic
