Population Served: At-risk youth in Racine Co. and surrounding areas; accurate numerical
data is unavailable due to privacy and consistent changing of population served

Features of the Product: This brochure must include previous booklet information, logo, contact information, colors, and United Way logo. This product should be informative, yet inviting.

Similar Services Offered: Currently, no other not-for-profit exists to provide a haven for atrisk and runaway youth.

Communication Methods: Safe Haven communicates its message through the middle school

engagement program which assists at-risk youth with truancy and other issues. Representatives
also attend conferences, outreach programs, community functions, speaking at local churches,
and via website.

Ages of Participants: Between 5-17 years old, usually the teens ages 13-17
Areas Served: Racine, Kenosha, Milwaukee, Burlington, Waterford
Income Level: Usually low-come, but available to everyone
Struggles of the At-Risk Youth: Most of it is just I guess they need a lot of mediation be-

tween themselves and the parents. A lot of them just feel like theyre misunderstood, but once
you add in the mental health issues or substance abuse issues, it complicates it even further.

Success stories: At Safe Haven, employees with the help of qualified therapists try to reach

at-risk youths, before they destroy themselves, and just preventative counseling, trying to help
them through situations and give them some guidance and role models. So far, its really been
working out good. A lot of the kids return back to school. Some of them go to Job Corps. who
dont want to live with their parents, who dont want to go to school. I let them know that there
are so many other options out there. Ameniah Bernard

Within two months of distribution of this new brochure, we will see an increase of at least 10
at-risk youth being assisted by Safe Haven.
Within two months of distribution of this new brochure, we will have a 10-15% increase of
inquiries by phone or in-person, regarding Safe Haven and the services it offers.

Evaluation Tools:
Safe Haven will keep detailed records of psychiatric services used and at-risk youth staying
at the facility to compare with previous records and evaluate the effectiveness of the new
brochure.

compare with previous records and evaluate the effectiveness of the new brochure
Note: If detailed records have not been kept, Safe Haven will wait at least 1-2 months to collect control data to compare with the new data.
