theabilitytomovelimbsthroughouttheentirebody.In1864Kuhnediscoveredthemyosin
proteinandthattheskeletalmuscleismadeupofhundreds,oreventhousandsofmusclefibers
bundledtogetherandwrappedinaconnectivetissuecovering.Musclecontractionsofthose
thousandsofmusclefiberswerestudiedbyfourmajorscientistsAndrewF.Huxley,rolf
Niedergerke,HughHuxley,andJeanHansonin1954theyfoundthatATPcausedactinand
myosintoslideacrosseachotherastheskeletalmusclecontractionoccurred.AngeloMossoin
thelate1800sworkedwithphysiologistsWilhelmLudwig,DuBoisReymond,hugoKronecker,
andEtienneMareytoconductresearchonmusclefatigueusingmuscletracings.Applying
knowledgeofskeletalmusclestructure,contraction,fatiguethefollowinglabswereconducted
showingtheeffectoftheATPontherabbitfibersandthefatiguecausedbycontinuousand
repetitivemusclecontractions

ATPwasaddedbecausetheATPsimulatesacontractionofthemyosinheadsattachingtothe
actinformingabridgethatpullsthefilamentinwardsofthesarcomerethuscausingittoshorten.

Thedataintherepetitiveandcontinuousgriptestshowsthatmusclesstarttoshowfatiguethe
longeryouperformthetest.Whenyourbrainsendsasignaltoexertmoreforcetotheobject
themusclesbegintoworkharderagain.Thefasttwitchmusclesfatigueaslacticacid
accumulatedandastheATPandbiochemicalstoregenerateATParedepleted.Therefore
grippingtheprobeweakerastimegoesonuntilthebrainremindsthemuscleitcangripharder.
