1. Describe at least three things that you revised in your final version of your release.
I didnt address a specific person when I wrote this pitch, which is one of the most important
things to do for a pitch. I went back, did my research on who would be most interested in
this story, and address this pitch to her.
I didnt provide any offers for assistance or a deadline, so I added in how I have the power to
conduct interviews with important people in SOLC. I also set the deadline for about a week,
and stated that Ill be in contact with them, which will help remind them about the story if
they forgot about it.
I also added in more information about why this story should be in the Good 5 Cent Cigar. I
dont enjoy flattering people for the purpose of trying to get what I want, but I tried my best
to impress the person Im addressing the pitch to.
2. What aspects of writing either release came most naturally to you? What aspects of
writing either release were the most challenging for you?
It was challenging to write a catchy story. The first time I wrote the story it was unclear what
my message, goal and story was, but later on in the pitch, it made sense. I focused on one of
groups that SOLC has worked with, but didnt give enough story on SOLC. It looked like I
was writing about PRRSA, so I had to go back and figure out how to showcase SOLC only
and make them look important.
It was easy for me to talk about why the Cigar should write this story more towards the end
than in the beginning.
3. What have you learned in this course that you can use in your other courses/your
life/your future employment?
Im learning how to write an interesting story. Most of my writing career Ive written more
research papers than stories, so Im very used to writing dry cut information. Now in PR, I
know I have to make my stories stand out, and with this class Im learning how to cut
through the clutter by practicing and writing things like pitches.
