L-Learned

Animals migrate in the

fall because of the
colder weather in the
northern regions. They
head south where it is
warmer.
The Fall is also called
Autumn
The leaves fall because
the cold air is too harsh
for them to survive
through; they regrow in
the spring when it is
warmer.
Not only leaves fall
from the trees. So do
pinecones, spikey balls,
and pollen.
Leaves loose their
green color because
they are dying when
they fall off. This
causes them to look
orange, yellow and
brown.
Farmers harvest their
crops in the fall so they
dont die in the winter.
This is why it is a
popular season for
apples and pumpkins.

Language/Literacy
Read books/stories/poems
covering various topics
about the Fall: the
processes that happen
when the seasons change,
migration of animals
Have students make up
their own stories about a
fall adventure based on
the books weve read
together

Math/Science/Technology
Count various fall objects
together: leaves,
pinecones, mini-pumpkins,
apples, etc.
Read books that involve
counting up and down by
1s: Ten little Pumpkins
Sitting on a Gate and
Ten timid Ghosts. Have
the children practice
adding and subtracting by
1s using their own bodies
and those of their peers
as manipulative.

Physical
Hot potato with a
mini pumpkin or
pinecone
Parachute with leave
on top of it, mimics the
act of leave falling
Pine cone Bowling:
place ten pinecones in
a triangle and have the
children try to knock it
down using a ball

Fall
Social/Emotional
Dramatic play of
farmer selling his crops
to a customer or store
owner
Share their favorite fall
stories (imaginative or
real)
Pretend they are an
animal migrating and
share the story of their
journey with the class

Creative Play
Sensory table with twigs,
leaves, pinecones and
other natural aspects of
Fall
Using those same
natural materials to
make arts and crafts
projects with the teacher
Using twigs, and pieces
of tree branches in the
block area to create
structures

Music/Movement
Have children mimic
the movement of a
falling leaf using their
bodies, while listening
to the sound of the
wind on a CD
Sing various fall songs
throughout the day to
transition from activity
to activity
Have a new fall song
everyday at circle time
that the students can
sing and dance to
