9/11 Carl Bini Tribute

Carl Bini was what some might say a "HERO", he was the rescue Co.
5 firefighting team. He fire career was first established in 1983 when
he was assigned to the Ladder Co. 172 in Brooklyn, NY. He would serve
there for 8 years until being moved up to rescue 5 ,the elite unit in
1991. In these years he developed some life long friends who he
referred to as brothers. In 1992 US Air Flight 405 slid off a LaGuardia
Airport runway and into Flushing Bay, killing 27 people.
In 1996 he received a letter and a certificate of appreciation from
then FBI Director Louis J. Freeh for demonstrating "the effectiveness of
this nation's military and law enforcement resources in responding to
emergencies". He received this for his part in the rescue and recovery
effort following the explosion and crash of TWA Flight 800 off Long
Island.
To get into his more personal life, Mr.Bini and his wife started dating
very young due to the fact that they only lived four blocks
apart.Mrs.Bini says "We started going out when we were only 12 years
old and I've loved him since then", his wife of 23 years. In spite of
working in a firehouse, Mr.Bini was a devoted family man who spent
much time with his wife and two children. In 1995,Mr.Bini reestablished
the track and field team at St. Charles School, Oakwood. The following

year, with the assistance of his close friend, Rick Marchi, Mr.Bini
coached his daughter Stefanie's CYO basketball team to the only state
championship in St. Charles' history.
On the morning of Sep.11, Mr.Bini showed his true colors again. He
and his childhood friend, Joseph Mascali were at the Tower East
Construction Co. when they heard the news about the World Trade
Center. His immediate concern was for his wife who was in the area of
the attack.Mrs.Bini says "at around 9:15 a.m when I called him back,
he said he was heading to the firehouse". This was the last time
someone has came into contact with him.He is now among the
thousands missing as a result of the attack, and on of the 11 Rescue 5
members lost.
Mr.Bini was a honorable men who will always be known as a man
who gave his life for the well-being of others.
